ASA-TTAPAS – Twin Turbo Air and Supply
Turbo compressed air for applications
where conventional compressors reach their limits
TTAPAS bridges the gap between turbo technology and conventional compressed air generation.
Conventional turbo compressors only deliver high pressure ratios with large volume flows.
TTAPAS breaks through this barrier and, for the first time, enables efficient turbo compressed air generation for small to medium air volumes.
TTAPAS is not a standard machine, but a customer-specific turbo-based compressed air generation system – developed for OEMs who still rely on piston or positive displacement compressors today, but are already looking for tomorrow’s solution.
Piston compressors dominate?
In industrial compressed air generation, there has been a clear distinction for decades:
Turbo compressors are efficient, quiet, and low-maintenance—
but they are only economical to use with large air mass flows.
Piston and screw compressors cover small and medium volume flows –
but with system-related disadvantages in terms of efficiency, noise, vibration, and maintenance.
Result:
For many applications with high pressure requirements and moderate air consumption, there has been no turbo-based alternative to date.
Not because positive displacement compressors are technically superior –
but because turbo technology has not been sufficiently scalable until now.
Solution: ASA-TTAPAS
Turbo technology rescaled
TTAPAS is a multi-stage turbo compressor designed specifically for applications requiring high pressure ratios with small to medium volume flows.
While classic turbo compressors are designed for large air mass flows, TTAPAS was developed from the ground up for a completely different application window.
Thanks to a globally unique combination of multi-stage turbo compression, specific stage design, and a control strategy precisely tailored to these operating ranges, stable, efficient turbo operation is now possible for the first time in a range that was previously covered exclusively by piston and positive displacement compressors.
TTAPAS is therefore not a further development of existing concepts, but an independent technological approach.
Technical principle
(simplified classification)
The TTAPAS system is based on multi-stage turbo compression with intercooling.
The individual compressor stages are designed in terms of flow technology in such a way that stable operation without typical turbo limitations (e.g., pump limits, unstable characteristic maps) is possible even at comparatively low volume flows.
The design allows for:
- high pressure ratios with moderate air throughput
- a wide, stable operating range
- a high degree of controllability that is atypical for turbo systems
This opens up a field of application that was previously considered unsuitable for turbo systems.
Alternative
Why TTAPAS improves existing concepts
In many industrial applications, piston or screw compressors are not used because they are technically superior, but because no turbo-based alternative was available.
TTAPAS changes precisely this situation.
Turbo-based compressed air generation offers system-related advantages:
- significantly higher overall energy efficiency
- lower life cycle costs (LCC)
- very low noise and vibration levels
- hardly any wear-prone components in the compression process
- low maintenance requirements
- compact, modular design
TTAPAS is therefore particularly suitable for applications where efficiency, noise, maintenance, and life cycle costs play a decisive role.
Comparison
TTAPAS does not replace a single compressor type, but offers for the first time a turbo-based solution for applications that previously had to be implemented with piston or positive displacement compressors.
Users benefit from the well-known advantages of turbo technology—
in an area of application where it was previously unavailable.
OEM system solution
No off-the-shelf machine – but a customer-specific design
TTAPAS is deliberately not a standard off-the-shelf product.
The system is designed to customer specifications and adapted to the respective application.
Among other things, the following are coordinated:
Pressure level and volume flow
Number of stages and design
Operating and control strategy
Interfaces, integration, and incorporation into existing systems
ASA sees TTAPAS as a system component for OEMs who want to rethink existing compressed air concepts from a technological perspective.
TTAPAS can be designed both as a stand-alone compressed air generator and as an integrated component of a higher-level system solution.
TTAPAS is specifically aimed at OEMs and system providers who want to not only optimize existing compressed air solutions, but also fundamentally reevaluate them.
ASA does not initially target the mass market, but rather selected partners with whom technical issues, integration concepts, and pilot applications can be discussed in a meaningful and confidential manner.
Typical applications:
- Replacing existing piston or positive displacement compressor concepts
- Developing new system solutions with increased efficiency, noise, or maintenance requirements
- Evaluating pilot or pre-development projects
