Variable compressor speed for free boost pressure modulation

The Variocharger© patented by ASA Kompressor delivers freely definable boost pressure immediately, and thus torque according to the user’s requirements. Thanks to its innovative and unique concept, this is achieved without delay and almost independently of the engine speed.

To achieve this ideal state, the speed of a suction-throttled radial compressor is maintained via a variable transmission; the system is effectively preloaded. In the event of positive load jumps, the ambient pressure in the intake area of the ASA Variocharger© is immediately available, and at maximum if desired. The compressor unit can thus spontaneously deliver the maximum possible pressure ratio in this operating range.

Another positive aspect is that the ASA Variocharger delivers electrical power at full load, which can be forwarded directly to the electric motor(s) in hybrid drive concepts.
