SpaceBoost – High-Temperature Compressor
ASA Kompressor GmbH has developed a compact high-performance compressor designed for operation under vacuum conditions and at elevated temperatures. The compressor enables controlled handling of hot gases and is intended for use in safety-critical return systems.
Designed and manufactured in Bavaria, the compressor reaches operating speeds exceeding 120,000 rpm. It is engineered to handle gas temperatures of up to 800 °C while maintaining a compact design and high power density. The overall concept focuses on low mass, thermal stability, and reproducible operating behavior.
Key components such as the compressor impeller as well as the compressor and gearbox housing are made from the nickel-based superalloy Inconel 718 and manufactured using additive processes. This allows the implementation of flow-optimized internal geometries and functionally integrated structures that are difficult or inefficient to realize using conventional machining.
The compressor is currently in an advanced testing phase. An orbital demonstration flight was successfully completed in February 2025. Further details regarding the application and mission profile are currently subject to confidentiality.
